At that point, Arc’teryx’s ReBIRD program already existed, providing a solid infrastructure for product repairs, resale, trade-in, and upcycling. However, the leadership team recognized they were still missing an actual process—a viable, repeatable way to create products designed from their first sketch to be used for longer and ultimately regenerated into something new. According to Andrew Yip, Senior Director of Materials Innovation at Arc’teryx, the team realized during the development of the Sperro SV that they didn’t have all the pieces of the system in place. To find the exact nylon content ratio that would make the fabric both functionally and financially recyclable, Arc’teryx worked closely with Aquafil, the manufacturer of ECONYL® regenerated nylon. According to Aquafil, this textile is renowned for its high wear resistance and impact strength, providing the extreme durability required for the Sperro SV. By focusing on a mono-material approach where possible, Arc’teryx is preparing for a future where chemical recycling can break down a jacket into its base polymers to be spun into new yarn without the degradation associated with traditional mechanical recycling.

The Alpha SV lacks hand pockets because they would interfere with a climbing harness, a design choice that makes it a precision tool but perhaps less versatile for the average outdoor enthusiast.
