In an increasingly saturated market of artificial intelligence-driven travel planning applications, a new startup named Boop is poised to disrupt the industry with an innovative approach that transforms social recommendations into readily bookable itineraries. Moving beyond generic AI-generated travel plans, Boop offers users direct access to meticulously crafted travel plans from real people who have experienced real trips. This unique platform leverages the power of AI to transform personal travel experiences into shareable, customizable itineraries, fostering a community of travel creators and empowering them with monetization opportunities.

Founded in February by Nancy Li Smith, a seasoned tech innovator with a distinguished background in AR/VR at Meta and Microsoft, and a former executive vice president of growth and strategy at the AI startup BrightAI, Boop addresses a critical gap in the travel planning ecosystem. Smith’s inspiration for Boop stemmed from her own frustration with the inefficient methods of remembering and sharing travel recommendations. She recognized the inherent stress and emotional labor associated with travel planning, particularly for women, who, according to Hertelier, make approximately 80% of travel decisions and often feel immense pressure to curate perfect trips.

"Women are the majority of the time the planner in the relationship and in the family and the friends groups," Smith explained in an interview with TechCrunch. "There’s this pressure to make every trip amazing, not only for yourself or your partner, for your family, for your friends. All these years of the emotional and logistical labor for free. Boop is now solving this so that we can capture this easily without people doing anything." This sentiment underscores Boop’s mission to alleviate the burden of travel planning by providing a seamless and rewarding experience for both travelers and creators.

Instead of the laborious process of sifting through fragmented recommendations on platforms like TikTok, scrutinizing countless reviews, and meticulously pinning locations on Google Maps, Boop users can access tested and trusted itineraries directly from friends and trusted travel creators. The app utilizes AI to rapidly convert a traveler’s journey into a comprehensive itinerary. By analyzing location data and metadata from shared photos, Boop intelligently reconstructs the user’s trip, making it accessible for others to adopt and personalize. This creates a dynamic network of shared travel experiences, offering travel content creators a novel avenue to monetize their expertise and recommendations.

"Boop is the first AI travel companion that’s built on social trust," Smith elaborated. "What that means is, the moment you start going on a trip and start exploring and roaming around, Boop basically remembers your trip in the background, so all your stops, your photos, your reservations, and in the background turns this into a beautiful, shoppable itinerary that friends can now actually use." This emphasis on social trust differentiates Boop from purely algorithmic travel planners, grounding its recommendations in authentic human experiences.

The functionality of Boop is remarkably intuitive. Once a user begins "capturing" a trip, with their explicit permission, the app discreetly tracks their movements in the background, analogous to how fitness applications monitor daily activity. The company assures users that Boop’s AI exclusively utilizes location data for the purpose of itinerary creation and recommendation generation, refraining from any other data exploitation. For instance, if a user has expressed an interest in art and finds themselves in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, Boop might suggest a visit to the Atelier des Lumières, demonstrating a personalized and context-aware recommendation engine.

The app’s AI capabilities extend to future integrations, with plans to seamlessly connect with users’ calendars, with their consent, to automatically incorporate existing reservations into their itineraries. This proactive approach aims to further streamline the planning process, ensuring that all travel-related details are consolidated in one accessible location.

Boop’s utility isn’t confined to the pre-trip planning phase; it also serves as a valuable companion while on the road. Imagine being in Tokyo at 11 p.m., feeling spontaneous, and Boop can instantly offer tailored suggestions for activities based on your preferences and your friends’ past experiences. This real-time, context-aware assistance transforms spontaneous moments into memorable adventures.

Boop officially launched on mobile on Tuesday and is currently operating on an invite-only basis, with a public waitlist available for those eager to join the platform. The company is actively extending early access to select travel creators whose journeys are already sought after by a wider audience. Smith highlighted significant interest from established travel influencers who are actively seeking ways to monetize their content and recommendations. Through a "Boop with me" link, creators can share their personalized itineraries, complete with integrated affiliate links, allowing their followers to directly replicate their experiences.

"When people copy the link and book, we automatically integrate affiliate commission APIs from the industry, and we generate the industry standard of 10 to 25% commissions, and we turn half of that back to the creators," Smith revealed. "With each copy, that means 50 to 100 bucks. And if you’re an influencer with 100,000 followers, and you have 100 people copying this, it becomes a five- [or] six-figure income down the road." This lucrative model incentivizes creators to share high-quality, actionable travel plans, fostering a virtuous cycle of content creation and user engagement. Boop is actively partnering with hotel and experience affiliate aggregation companies, leveraging APIs to access booking inventory from prominent platforms like Expedia, Booking.com, Marriott, and Viator, ensuring a comprehensive and competitive offering for its users.

Boop’s strategic vision is further bolstered by the support of esteemed leaders from the travel industry. The company has secured backing from notable investors, including Stephen Kaufer, the co-founder and former CEO of Tripadvisor, and Stephanie Linnartz, the former president of Marriott International. Their deep understanding of travel dynamics and consumer behavior provides Boop with invaluable strategic guidance and industry credibility. In terms of financial backing, Boop successfully raised $3.2 million in pre-seed funding in May, with Bling Capital and BBG Ventures co-leading the investment round.

Looking ahead, Boop aspires to become the preeminent platform for booking travel, especially as research indicates a growing trend among Gen Zs to view travel not as a discretionary expense but as a fundamental aspect of their lifestyle. "In five years, what we the team internally talked about is when someone wants to plan a trip, they won’t say, check the reviews, they’ll say, copy my Boop," Smith envisioned. "And, so every real trip becomes a guide, and every memory becomes a new currency." This ambitious outlook positions Boop not just as a travel planning app, but as a transformative platform that democratizes travel inspiration and monetization, turning personal memories into a valuable and shareable asset in the digital age. The platform’s integration with the TechCrunch Disrupt event, scheduled for October 13-15, 2026, in San Francisco, CA, further solidifies its presence within the tech innovation landscape and provides a significant opportunity for exposure and networking within the industry.
